Caernarfon Ladies 75 - Llandaff North Ladies 5

The reintroduction of league fixtures at this late point of the season has not been totally successful in so far as ensuring fully competitive encounters. Llandaff North travelled with a much weaker side than that which had faced the Cofis at Cardiff last September and hence found the Cofis too hot to handle.

The opening quarter saw four tries, three as the result of good interplay between numerous forwards and backs, leading to touchdowns for Rachel Taylor, Elen Evans and Beth Davies with Jess Kavanagh Williams adding a more solo effort.

With the knowledge that keeping the ball alive would lead to further gaps appearing in Llandaff North's rearguard the Cofis maintained the pressure. They soon capitalised as timely offloads led to further touchdowns for Elen Evans, Beth Davies and Jess Kavanagh Williams once again.

Llandaff North were still willing and committed but could not get their usual game going since the experience and composure required was not at their disposal. The Cofis meanwhile were quick to counter and the tackling by the likes of Elin Royle meant that the visitors had a tough task on their hands if to register a score of their own.

On loan Lea Royle offered the visitors a degree of hope at the beginning of the second half when she burst strongly into the Cofi twenty two but sadly had no close quarter support at hand. Caernarfon on the contrary had that luxury when they attacked leading to a second try for Rachel Taylor soon followed by another solo run from distance by fullback Beth Davies to notch her hat trick.

Caernarfon then completed their scoring for the afternoon when Elen Evans found herself in the right place to collect from workmanlike captain Emma Edwards on two occasions to increase her personal try tally for the day to four. Another feature deserving of acclaim was the fact that Beth Davies succeeded to convert ten of the eleven tries scored.

Apart from the try scorers mentioned the unselfish contribution of forwards Nicky Crawford, Nia Davies, Brea Leung and Jenny Davies were paramount to ensure success with Claire Wright and constantly improving Sophie Richardson within one pass of finding their names on the score sheet.

Amid the short sharp shower that fell the handling deteriorated and Llandaff North made better of the ball that came their way. With Catrin Edwards still featuring and cajoling the visitors, they finally found themselves within the red zone and all the Caernarfon faithful were fully supportive when number eight Nia Jones finally crossed the try line to grant Llandaff North a morale boosting consolation try prior to their long trek home.
