Caernarfon 37 - Ruthin 13

The Cofis finally got their first win in 2016, and also secured a bonus point to boot.
However it was Ruthin who scored first with a try by Mike Evans 0-5, within the first 5 minutes, with the home fans thinking here we go again. The Cofis soon replied with a try of their own following some good handling by the back line to get the ball out wide for Dylan Gwyn to score in the corner. The Cofis were gaining the upper hand in the rucks and mauls and went ahead for the first time when Aled Jones slotted over a penalty, to make the score 8-5. Shay Owen then levelled the score yet again with another penalty.
The next score came as a result of turnover ball secured by the Cofi back and flanker Mac Jones broke through the Rhuthun defence and scored under the posts, with Aled Jones converting making now 15-8 for the home team. Following a sustained period of pressure in the Rhuthun half another penalty was awarded and a quick tap penalty by no 8 Rhys Evans who out stepped the away defence for yet another try and conversion by Aled Jones making the half time score 22-8.
The Cofis were now playing down the field and against the wind but continued to dominate possession and lively winger Iolo Huws was next to score and secure the bonus point, 30-8.
With play ebbing and flowing between both halves Rhuthun were unable to finish and secure some much need points, and get back into the game.
With the ball now being spread out wide by the Cofis another try followed some good interplay with hooker Gareth Pritchard charging over from some 10 metres, and Aled Jones converting to make it 37-8.
It was Rhuthun who had the last say with Deian Lloyd Williams scoring a try converted by Shay Owen to make it 37-13 for the home side.
With only 3 league games left hopefully this will be the win that will boost confidence within the home team and an opportunity to finish the season strongly and maintain their position  in the upper half of the table. Next game is away to Bala on Saturday the 9th April
