Caernarfon Ladies 56 - Cardiff Met Ladies 0

Caernarfon Ladies  56  Cardiff Met Ladies  0.

Caernarfon recorded their second successive win in the Premier League scoring 10 tries in the process. Cardiff Met to their credit though were game throughout, considering that they had suffered a heavy reverse the previous week as well.

It was Caernarfon who applied the early pressure with standoff Sera Bailey linking well with her backs and strong running from the likes of Nicky Crawford and Beth Davies gaining valuable meters. It took twelve minutes for the line to be breached when a quick off load following a Jenny Davies charge allowed winger Tawny Travis to squeeze in at the corner.

When Cardiff got the ball they were faced with uncompromising tackling from the likes of Emma Edwards, Sarah Williams and Beth Davies. An interlinking charge by four forwards then left the visitors defence in enough disarray to allow Sera Bailey just enough of a gap to ground on her return to the fold. Minutes later a wayward lineout throw was picked up by Number 8, Nicky Crawford who powered her way over the try line.

Cardiff were then unfortunate to lose the services of  Lucy Brewer and Roisin Payton to injury but the Cofis responded by lessening their numbers as well. This however created more space for the attackers to exploit and more ground for the defenders to cover. Despite this, during the remainder of the first half the line was only breached once, when a break from 40yds saw Rachel Taylor in daylight and her turn of speed took her clear to score and for Beth Davies to convert, thus bringing the first half to a close at twenty two points to nil.

Iona Evans thought she had opened her account at the beginning of the second half but the referee was not happy with the grounding, she did however make up for it some ten minutes later when her break from midfield following a strong run by second row Teleri Wyn saw her cross and ground successfully. Meanwhile a wayward Cardiff clearance had fallen kindly for Caernarfon with Rachel Taylor rounding off the move to score. Bailey added the conversion. Soon afterwards a punt downfield had looked like crossing the dead ball line but Taylor had other ideas, sprinted in pursuit and just managed to get her fingertips to the ball before it left the field of play. Yazmin Leung on this occasion adding the extras.

Meanwhile Cardiff kept plugging away with prop Danielle Dinaplle strong in her charges and their Caernarfon nurtured scrum half Sioned Williams swift to bring her backs into the fray. Amberlley Ruck at stand off was also showing neat touches and in centre Sarah Foster they had a player who would grace any rugby field at the highest level. Lowri Trustlove at fullback was also quick off the mark and the Cofis had to be weary whenever she had the ball.

The more cohesive Cofi pack were however more adapt at keeping and recycling the ball and it was following such a phase that Rachel Taylor scored her third of the day mid way through the half. Jenny Davies got in on the act later when she was able to pick up and just do enough to evade several tackles to charge over. Substitute Nia Davies entered the fray with a barnstorming touchline dash and Cari Boun, another late inclusion was instrumental twice in setting up the final and best worked team try to release replacement winger Rhian Pritchard who grounded out wide.

Caernarfon will be happy with the nature of the win and would be pleased that their try line was not crossed but will also be aware that tougher tests will follow on their away treks in the next few weeks.
